Michael Steele: Figure Head Leader Confirmed  |

A few weeks ago I wrote about RNC leader Michael Steele being a “toothless tiger” and how he seemed to be losing his control over the RNC, and unfortunately that very fact has become officially confirmed.
The Washington Times is reporting that Steele has signed a secret RNC agreement which takes control of the RNC purse strings out of his control and gives it to unknown individuals who will be acting in a checks and balance type role for the chairman.
Appropriately entitled, in Orwellian fashion the “good governance” agreement, the secret contract seems to reinstate measures Steel fought hard to keep from coming into play. Apparently Steele no longer will have control over RNC spending. Who that duty will fall on is unknown at this time, but what is known that it won’t be Steel spending the money.
In addition, the agreement also resurrects Jay Banning as an advisor to the RNC. Banning, you may remember, was fired by Steele last month.
So will Steele resign as he said he would if spending was taken out of his control? He has made no moves yet that indicate he will, but it’s hard to imagine him staying as simply a figure head. A role he said he could not and would not fulfill.
So here’s the important question, if Steele isn’t in control of the RNC, who is? And why are these decisions being made in secret, without the knowledge and participation of the Party? Why is RNC leadership a matter of secrecy? Why shouldn’t the rank and file know who it is that’s making decisions for the Party?
What’s the sense of having a Party chairman if that chairman has no authority? Why not just have unknown individuals make all decisions in secret and hand down decisions disembodied from any democratic process. Oh wait, that’s exactly what is happening.
The Party of Regan, the great communicator is now apparently the Party of Secrets, secrets kept from the very people for whom the Party exists.
