What’s In Your Water? By: Amy Vedder |
| |
We all do the same thing, we’re thirsty so we go over to kitchen sink turn the water on and fill our glass. But how infrequently do we question the purity of that water? For most of us, the thought probably never crosses our mind, but the thought should cross our minds because studies are showing that the quality of our drinking is far worse than we may have ever guessed.
A study done in 2005 in which water from 40,000 water utilities, serving 231 million people was examined found 141 unregulated chemicals, the most common being nitrates, chloroform, disinfectant byproducts, copper, barium and arsenic. Yes these are the chemicals we are drinking every time we go over to the tap for a glass of water.
So what can be done about this? Unfortunately the EPA doesn’t seem willing to seriously address this problem so if anything is going to be done in the short term, it is going to be done by individuals who take the time and pay the price to purify the water they get from their tap.
So what is the best way to purify water in the home? Hands down the best home water purification systems are Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers.
Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers filters water by squeezing water through a semi-permeable membrane. This is the same method used to purify most bottled water that you can buy at your local convenient store. Reverse Osmosis is so effective it is the only method of water filtering that is capable of desalinating sea water.
The cost of Reverse Osmosis systems varies greatly from manufacture to manufacture, so if you are considering trying a system, you man want to try one of the cheaper units until you are convinced that it is something you are going to use.
If you have questions about what is in your water, you can purchase water testing kits at many local home improvement stores and online. And perhaps that’s the best place to start. Get yourself a testing kit and see for yourself exactly what is in your water, but be prepared for what you’ll find, the truth may shock you. And it could be worse than you even imagine.
