Cancer Prevention Diet By Heather Watt |
| |
While there is no key supplement or food that will absolutely keep you from getting cancer, it is in your power to give your body the tools it needs to produce healthy cells.
According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, antioxidants "help the body deactivate specific carcinogens" and "slow the reproduction of cancer cells." Get back to the basics: fruits and vegetables make up the majority of the list of cancer-preventing foods, especially those with bright colors, such as peppers and oranges.
The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends: Beans - peas, green beans, and soy products Berries - blueberries, strawberries, raspberries Cruciferous Vegetables - broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts Dark Green Leafy Vegetables - lettuce, spinach, collard greens Flaxseed - Digestible as oil, meal, or flour, it is particularly beneficial for women because it contains the mineral, lignan, which mimics estrogen. Garlic - As well as onions, scallions, leeks and chives, this family is proven to stop tumor growth. Grapes and Grape Juice - red and purple grapes Green Tea – The American Association for Cancer Research confirms the healthfulness of green tea with findings that drinking green tea may cut cancer risk by half. Soy - soy milk, soy beans, miso, tofu. *Exception: women who are taking anti-estrogen medications are recommended to limit soy intake, as it mimics and counteracts hormones. Tomatoes – The American Association for Cancer Research also found that tomato products can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Whole Grains - brown rice, oatmeal, popcorn, tortilla, kasha
In addition, The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine recommends consuming essential fatty acids. Our bodies do not produce omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, so they need to be taken in through our diet. Both types are easily consumed through green vegetables, seeds, vegetable oils, nuts and fruits.
Dark chocolate, which has a high cocoa content, is also an antioxidant! Of course, eating a whole tray of brownies will cause you other problems, but a small piece of dark chocolate every day can also detoxify.
Good news: many of these foods may also prevent heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's. High-fat diets which cause obesity are also likely to cause cancers of the colorectum, pancreas, and breast in postmenopausal women. These cancers occur more frequently in people with high body fat. Taking actions to prevent one of these diseases will likely help in preventing all of them.
